Why we built it
The holiday box is finally here. We spent most of this year on it: about a dozen Zoom calls, countless WhatsApp messages, samples going back and forth, and a trip to Greece to meet the people making what goes inside.Last year we were handing boxes across our driveway. This year they're crossing an ocean.

Where it comes from
Tap a pin to meet the people behind each piece, then follow it about 5,800 miles to Birmingham, where we pack every box by hand.

Crete
Made by the Stathakis family, who have been keeping bees on the island since the 1960s.
We tasted a lot of Greek honey from different islands, regions and farmers before choosing this one. It was not close.
Mount Olympus
Hand picked on Mount Olympus, the highest mountain in Greece and, in Greek mythology, the home of the twelve Olympian gods.
Greeks have been brewing mountain tea for generations. This one comes straight off the mountain.
Messolonghi
Most of Greece's salt comes from here, the lagoons on the western coast. Every summer, seawater sits in shallow salt pans and the sun and wind do the rest.
What is left is big, clean, crunchy flakes. A pinch over warm feta, a ripe tomato, or a steak right before it hits the table.
Arcadia
Chara makes the soap in our box. She comes from a small town just outside Tripoli, in the heart of Arcadia, and she has been making soap there since 2011.
Ever since she was a kid she loved mixing things together and watching them change, the colors and the smells. Her belief is simple: a soap made from ingredients you recognize can be kinder to your skin than something expensive and full of artificial fragrance.
The bar in our box is goat's milk, oats and honey, with a mild scent that reminds you of baby powder. Made by hand in small batches.
Birmingham, Alabama
Greek, Honey Lemon and Balsamic. The same recipes that started Trapézi, made right here in Birmingham.
They are what tie the whole box together. Everything from Greece, sitting next to the thing we have been putting on Birmingham tables from the start.
